MSI launches the worlds first ‘ALL IN ONE’ 3D Computer

On March 3 at CeBIT, MSI revealed the world’s first large-sized 3D All-in-One PC with powerful computing capabilities. Featuring a 120Hz LED panel and Shutter Glass 3D glasses, the new 3D computer is capable of producing vivid 3D images.

MSI Says:

We have become the first company in the world to introduce an All-in-One PC with a 3D touch-screen. Taking advantage of recent advances in 3D imaging technology, MSI has integrated 3D display technology with a powerful CPU to ensure smooth, clear 3D images and a higher level of detail. The combination of 120Hz LED panel and Shutter Glass 3D glasses brings the kind of 3D video experience that you would normally only get in the movie theater right into your home. Put on the 3D glasses and touch the screen with your fingertip, and the beautiful scenery of the planet Pandora from the movie Avatar will appear right in front of you, almost as if you could reach out and touch it.

CES 2009 – DOLBY DIGITAL 3D BLU-RAY (It never rains, but it pours!)

Dolby is joining the 3D blu-ray standard party by introducing it’s own adaption of the dolby digital 3D theatre technology to be used on 3D Blu-ray disks. They are in good company with TDVision and Panasonic introducing their own stereoscopic 3D blu-ray standards at CES 2009 also  (we have our money behind panasonic -Ed).

Dolby says it is currently encouraging various movie studios to use their 3D Blu-ray encoding standard.  Dolby is also apparently working on getting its 3D technology used in new stereoscopic 3D video games. Dolby’s home 3-D technology is designed so viewers would not be required to buy additional hardware. It works on any ‘3D Ready’ TV using a standard Blu-ray player.

When it comes to home 3D movies; Unless you are rich enough to afford a Sharp WOWvx 3D Display or another autostereoscopic monitor, you will need to use some sort of 3D glasses. Dolby said its technology would support both passive (polarized) 3D glasses and active 3D glasses (shutters).

NEXT3D PLAYER – STEREOSCOPIC 3D HD3D VIDEO PLAYER (XBOX 3D Beta Test Now Open)

A startup called NEXT3D are creating waves this week with the release of their NEXT3D Stereocopic 3D Video Player. They have received a bashing from Engadgets Daren Murph. NEXT3D says their 3D Player is “for game consoles, PCs, Macs, mobile devices, and TVs”. So far they haven’t actually launched on any device (excluding the XBOX 3D Beta test that has just begun). Next3D says its stereoscopic 3D Player is “supported by a content delivery service capable of streaming 1080p high-definition 3D video” which sounds great but, again we again we are yet to see it in action. But we say, give them a chance. Don’t be a “Player” Hater Daren -Ed

DO YOU OWN AN XBOX 360 AND WANT TO JOIN THE BETA TEST OF NEXT3D? Well, if you also own a ‘3D Ready’ Televison and a pair of 3D shutter glasses, YOU CAN SIGN UP HERE.

APPLE 3D Mac – Is a Stereoscopic 3D Operating System on Apples Horizon? Introducing The Multi-Dimensional Desktop

A recent patent application filed by Apple suggests that Steve Jobs and crew have plans to release a 3D Operating System (OS) in future (they call it a Multi-Dimensional Desktop) . Apple is no stranger to introducing consumers to revolutionary new technology and their latest patent application follows suit.

Whilst details are scarce, it would appear that Apple’s 3D OS would allow your usual desktop icons to appear in some sort of new 3D layout (as opposed to the current flat 2D OS’s).

Whilst there is no mention specifically of any stereoscopic application, I am going to go ahead and convince myself that there is some sort of revolutionary stereoscopic 3D apple display (or a 3D MacBook) on the way. Perhaps all the 3D Gaming and 3D Movies have warped my brain.

Apple is not the first company to play around with a 3D desktop many others are also dabbling in this area (including SUN’s Project Looking Glass)

Read on to see a video of a 3D desktop in action and full details of Apples patent application..

PRESS RELEASE: TDVISION to Showcase the World’s First and Only 3D/2D Compatible Full HD Stereoscopic Broadcast (and Blu-Ray Format) at CES 2009
TDVision Systems will be showcasing the TDVCodec encoding and decoding system for High Definition 3D Digital Video streams that supports Blu-Ray and broadcast at up to 1920×1080p resolution per-eye at CES 2009. The theme of the demonstration is “encode once and deploy anywhere.” “Stereoscopic HD3D is here. TDVision set the bar almost a year ago at CES and then in April 2008, presenting the working implementation of the TDVCodec running on a Blu-Ray(TM) disc and a 3D Ready DLP at NAB. Now we have optimized our systems and we are proud to demonstrate that this can be in your home today, working over existing pipelines, running on every existing and future 3D display at the best native resolution, even in 2D HD for backwards compatibility.” said Manuel Gutierrez, President and CEO of TDVision. “TDVision’s patented technology has also been implemented as Intra-view coding in the MVC MPEG4 H.264 extension recommendation initiative by comparing the difference between left and right channels. This eliminates redundant information and optimizes the bandwidth required for a given infrastructure such as cable, satellite, ATSC 1.0/2.0 and Blu-ray(TM) disc. The TDVCodec is the best and only way to deploy HD 3D with no loss in color, quality, frame rate or resolution. All other existing technologies like spatial squeezing or display pre-formatted techniques defeat the purpose of realistic 3D imagery by cutting resolution in more than half and at times showing only 25 percent of the original pixels after formatting and presenting to a 3D Ready Display. TDVision has simply created the first class and preeminent codec that provides full 100% 1080p per eye as close as possible to the original content,” he continued. “People use our high quality XpanD glasses in the theater and in the home to watch exceptional content in the best quality possible, that’s why the TDVision System is so appealing to consumers that won’t except anything less than true high definition 3D,” said Ami Dror of XpanD. Attendees at CES 2009 will experience at the show high quality cinematic content encoded in the TDVision format playing back on a variety of devices including Texas Instruments(TM) enabled DLP, provided by Mitsubishi(TM), in conjunction with high quality shutter glasses from XpanD, 3D enabled LCD (passive glasses) from Hyundai(TM), a Planar(TM) display and all the way up to a Dual Projector System provided by Scalable Display Technologies running at full 1920×1080p per-eye. TDVision will also be showing the TDVirtualCam gaming technology which accurately emulates the way the eyes and brain perceive 3D information allowing for a very comfortable and engaging gaming experience on the XBOX(R) platform.
