Dreamworks Animation is offering the world’s first-ever HD 3D movie titles to the consumer market, converting “Monsters vs. Aliens” and the “Shrek” series to a ‘3D Ready’ TV Bluray disks.
Dreamworks is offering these 3D movie titles in a special partnership with samsung (to promote samsungs new 3D TV range). Samsung says said that people who purchased both a samsung 3DTV and a Samsung 3D Blu-ray player would also receive a special “3D pack”, including a set of two active 3D glasses and a copy of Monsters vs. Aliens 3D Bluray.

On March 3 at CeBIT, MSI revealed the world’s first large-sized 3D All-in-One PC with powerful computing capabilities. Featuring a 120Hz LED panel and Shutter Glass 3D glasses, the new 3D computer is capable of producing vivid 3D images.
MSI Says:
We have become the first company in the world to introduce an All-in-One PC with a 3D touch-screen. Taking advantage of recent advances in 3D imaging technology, MSI has integrated 3D display technology with a powerful CPU to ensure smooth, clear 3D images and a higher level of detail. The combination of 120Hz LED panel and Shutter Glass 3D glasses brings the kind of 3D video experience that you would normally only get in the movie theater right into your home. Put on the 3D glasses and touch the screen with your fingertip, and the beautiful scenery of the planet Pandora from the movie Avatar will appear right in front of you, almost as if you could reach out and touch it.

Nvidia has announced that their ‘Nvidia 3D Vision’ glasses are getting support for:

- Bing Maps
- Cooliris
- Flickr
- Youtube
..with plugins for Firefox, Chrome and Internet Explorer.

Do you own a Nokia smartphone?.. No.. Neither do I..
However, for those that do a fun new app is available for download that will allow you take stereoscopic anaglyph 3D photos using your mobile phone camera (that’s the old style 3D with the red and blue glasses).
It’s called ‘m3Dcam‘ and it’s free to download now. Want more info? Check out the promo video after the jump or visit the m3Dcam website. The site also features a collection of user uploaded anaglyph 3D photos (if you can handle the poor quality phone camera quality).

By now I am sure you are all well aware of YouTube’s new stereoscopic 3D videos?
Well here’s a super fast break down of the best online info regarding YouTube’s new 3D service. Read the rest of this entry »

Dolby is joining the 3D blu-ray standard party by introducing it’s own adaption of the dolby digital 3D theatre technology to be used on 3D Blu-ray disks. They are in good company with TDVision and Panasonic introducing their own stereoscopic 3D blu-ray standards at CES 2009 also (we have our money behind panasonic -Ed).
Dolby says it is currently encouraging various movie studios to use their 3D Blu-ray encoding standard. Dolby is also apparently working on getting its 3D technology used in new stereoscopic 3D video games. Dolby’s home 3-D technology is designed so viewers would not be required to buy additional hardware. It works on any ‘3D Ready’ TV using a standard Blu-ray player.
When it comes to home 3D movies; Unless you are rich enough to afford a Sharp WOWvx 3D Display or another autostereoscopic monitor, you will need to use some sort of 3D glasses. Dolby said its technology would support both passive (polarized) 3D glasses and active 3D glasses (shutters).

A startup called NEXT3D are creating waves this week with the release of their NEXT3D Stereocopic 3D Video Player. They have received a bashing from Engadgets Daren Murph. NEXT3D says their 3D Player is “for game consoles, PCs, Macs, mobile devices, and TVs”. So far they haven’t actually launched on any device (excluding the XBOX 3D Beta test that has just begun). Next3D says its stereoscopic 3D Player is “supported by a content delivery service capable of streaming 1080p high-definition 3D video” which sounds great but, again we again we are yet to see it in action. But we say, give them a chance. Don’t be a “Player” Hater Daren -Ed
DO YOU OWN AN XBOX 360 AND WANT TO JOIN THE BETA TEST OF NEXT3D? Well, if you also own a ‘3D Ready’ Televison and a pair of 3D shutter glasses, YOU CAN SIGN UP HERE.

A recent patent application filed by Apple suggests that Steve Jobs and crew have plans to release a 3D Operating System (OS) in future (they call it a Multi-Dimensional Desktop) . Apple is no stranger to introducing consumers to revolutionary new technology and their latest patent application follows suit.
Whilst details are scarce, it would appear that Apple’s 3D OS would allow your usual desktop icons to appear in some sort of new 3D layout (as opposed to the current flat 2D OS’s).
Whilst there is no mention specifically of any stereoscopic application, I am going to go ahead and convince myself that there is some sort of revolutionary stereoscopic 3D apple display (or a 3D MacBook) on the way. Perhaps all the 3D Gaming and 3D Movies have warped my brain.
Apple is not the first company to play around with a 3D desktop many others are also dabbling in this area (including SUN’s Project Looking Glass)
