Do you own a Nokia smartphone?..    No..   Neither do I..

However, for those that do a fun new app is available for download that will allow you take stereoscopic anaglyph 3D photos using your mobile phone camera (that’s the old style 3D with the red and blue glasses).

It’s called ‘m3Dcam‘ and it’s free to download now. Want more info? Check out the promo video after the jump or visit the m3Dcam website. The site also features a collection of user uploaded anaglyph 3D photos (if you can handle the poor quality phone camera quality).

Acer Aspire 5738DG Stereoscopic 3D Laptop – Priced at US$1300

October 19th, 2009 admin Posted in 3D Mobile Devices No Comments »

IN THE FLESH: The new Acer Aspire 5738-DG Stereoscopic 3D notebook. Priced at a reasonable US$1300 this stereo 3d computer is obviously aimed at consumer 3d multimedia fans.

Unlike Nvidia’s stereoscopic ‘vision 3D’ gaming glasses which use ‘Active 3D’ (Special mechanized glasses in which the left and right lenses shutter at high speeds at alternating times). The  Acer 5738DG utilizes ‘Passive 3D’ technology (static oppositely polarized lensed glasses).  [Learn more about Active 3D vs Passive 3D here] and special stereoscopic 3D software which acer is calling ‘Acer 3D CineReal’.

To make their stereoscopic 3D software Acer paired up with TriDef 3D. Included is the TriDef Media Player which will transform your 2D movies into 3D, while TriDef Ignition enables 2D – 3D conversion in games and applications supporting DirectX 9 or higher.

The Aspire 5738DG has a unique layered surface on the screen that combined with the special polarized ‘Passive 3D’ glasses allow the left and right eye to receive vision from different perspectives creating a stereoscopic 3D effect.   Read the rest of this entry »

3D iPhone App – 3D StereoMaker.. Hardly worth the bother

November 22nd, 2008 adminsta Posted in 3D Mobile Devices No Comments »

As both 3D and iPhone fans you can imagine how excited we were to hear that there was a stereo 3D application for the iPhone. That was until we actually used it! Sure it works (sort of) but with all the recent advances in 3D technology this old method seems a tad lame. I won’t waste your time explaining how it works, the image below says it all..

..and just when you thought this whole thing couldn’t get any more low tech, the instructables.com comes out with this DIY apparatus to make it easier to view the iPhone app. This makes normal 3D glasses look like Gucci frames..

New Product: NETBOOK 3D SCREEN MOD – Forget Touch Screens you need a 3D EEEPC!

November 19th, 2008 admin Posted in 3D Mobile Devices No Comments »

    - GIZ3D.com EXCLUSIVE“You heard it here first!”:

-We are pleased to announce the release of a potentially brilliant new mod for netbooks, the Netbook3D. I say ‘potentially’ because we have not yet tested one (hurry up iArt). While some people are adding touch screen options to their eeepc’s, iArt3D (from Taiwan) have released a mod that allows you to view special sterescopic 3D photos and videos without the need for 3D glasses, supposedly similar to the new 3D televisions and 3D displays that are being released by various electronics companies at the moment.

The Mod works by combining special stereoscopic creation and viewing software along with a special removable film that goes over your netbook screen. Priced from just US$79 for the 7″ eeepc pack, iArt3D has a range of netbook screen options for various model (including acer aspire one). They also have a range of 3D screen packages to suit all size monitors (up to US$4000 47inch packs).

Teeny Tiny 2.5 Inch 3D Screen – 3D iPhones still to come

October 23rd, 2008 admin Posted in 3D Mobile Devices No Comments »

EET Asia reports that Seiko Epson have developed a 2.57-inch 3D LCD Screen for mobile devices. This tiny screen doesn’t require the use of any glasses! The company says they hope to have these 3D screens in mobile devices within two years.

Many challenges had to be overcome in order to develop this technology for mobile devices as delivering 3D on a small screen creates its own unique set of obstacles. The largest being that dependent on how far you are away from the screen the distance of the two images (giving a left and right eye perspective) has to change. For the full story on this 3D technology see the original article.
