The Examiner reports:
“One of the surprise hits from 2009 was Batman: Arkham Asylum for the PC, Playstation 3, and Xbox 360. The game did what no other superhero game could do before it. It avoided being of terrible quality, surpassed mere competence, and zip-lined its way to excellence. Eidos and Rocksteady Games aren’t going to let a good thing go to waste however because the Game of the Year Edition for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 was just confirmed for North America and comes out this May.
Batman: Arkham Asylum is coming not only with six extra challenge maps but 3D supports as well. See that picture above? Yep, those are two pairs of 3D glasses. One has a Batman theme and the other has a Joker theme.”
Game Of The Year Edition..
The Game Of The Year version is set for release on May 11 in the US.

Japanese video game makers KONAMI unveil their Metal Gear Arcade game in Stereoscopic 3D.
Last year at E3, Konami’s Hideo Kojima announced the release of ‘Metal Gear Arcade’, the arcade machine version of the popular ‘Metal Gear’ console game. Now Konami is looking to further cash in on the Metal Gear arcade game by adding stereoscopic 3D and head tracking capabilities.
IGN reports: Konami is highlighting the built-in headset which not only makes use of 3D technology to enable the “Integral Vision” gameplay aspect, but also recognizes head movement of the player so that when you turn your head, Snake will look the same way in the game. For further immersion, Konami has also thrown in a mic for voice chat functionality and giant speakers that completely surround you while playing.

Check out the above video for a behind the scenes glimpse at the new Avatar stereoscopic 3D game for PC, PS3, Xbox and Wii.
This new game is mos def as visually amazing as the hype would suggest. You will require a ‘3D Ready’ TV (obviously) and a set of 3D shutter glasses (like Nvidia 3D vision) to play in stereo 3D. So if you are yet to buy a 3D LCD or Projector, now is definately the time!
Plot Summary (Spoiler Alert):
In James Cameron’s Avatar: The Game, you arrive on the distant world Pandora, hand-picked to take part in the Avatar Program, a little known scientific initiative launched by the RDA Corporation, which is mining Pandora for rare minerals. You learn to pilot your own avatar, a hybrid of your DNA and that of Pandora’s indigenous species, the Na’vi. As you venture further into the Pandoran jungle, you learn more about its many creatures of Pandora, the Na’vi, and their struggle with the Corporation to save Pandora At the flashpoint of this conflict, you must decide where your true allegiance lies: Do you fight alongside the RDA, attempting to alter the course of a conflict spiraling quickly out of control? … or do you join the Na’vi, battling to protect Pandora from the onslaught of the RDA?

I haven’t got much to add, short of saying I personally would have thought that stereoscopic 3D would be a far more important feature (and a bigger selling factor) than Bluray, the Playstation Network and the PSP linkage (which all currently exists).

Blood, Brains and Zombies will receive the 3D Stereoscopic treatment at the 5th Annual Johnny Ramone Tribute on the 3rd of October. The event which is set to be staged at the ‘Hollywood Forever Cemetery’ in California, will host the 3D global premiere screening of George Romero’s classic horror, Night of the Living Dead 3D. NVIDIA will also be there to show off showcase their 3D Vision stereoscopic 3D technology and give attendees a chance to play this year’s hottest horror game, Resident Evil 5 in 3D. The event will kick off at dusk with a showing of the full-length, 1977 Ramones concert, It’s Alive, screened outdoors against a 24-foot mausoleum wall. Actress Rose McGowan (Grindhouse) will then introduce the Night of the Living Dead in 3D.
Tickets are publicly available for a cheap $10 per person minimum donation (which includes a pair of commemorative 3D glasses) with proceeds benefiting the Johnny Ramone research fund.
Aside from the whole disrespecting the dead thing, I think a horror movie screened in 3D at a cemetery sounds like fun (if not down right scary). Apparently Picnic dinners, drinks (including alcohol), pillows, blankets and small chairs are permitted. I would also recommend taking some garlic and perhaps a stake or two to fend off zombies. -Ed
While PS3 and Xbox owners eagerly await the release of stereoscopic capabilties (from the likes of Blitz Games and Ubisoft). Check out this truly amazing stereoscopic 3D mod using a Nintendo Wii Remote. It involves head tracking technology and is a brilliant example of the advanced 3D technologies that already exist. My question is: If talented modders are able to do this, why have major console gaming companies (eg Nintendo) not bought loads of products using this tech to market?

With all the recent media hype surrounding the Blitz games 3D PS3 News. I thought it might be interesting to revisit a story ran earlier in the year about stereoscopic 3D Xbox 360. James Cameron’s upcoming stereoscopic 3D movie release ‘Avatar’ is set to be released as a Stereoscopic 3D game by Ubisoft (owner of the gaming rights to Avatar). Not a new story but something some people may have missed. Plus, I thought Xbox 360 owners might be feeling left out with all the 3D PS3 news. Here is an excerpt from an interview with James Cameron published by cnet earlier in the year:
He (James Cameron) noted that Ubisoft, which is making the game version of Avatar, already has a stereoscopic game up and running using a standard Xbox 360 and 3D glasses.
Cameron said that displays for laptops, phones, and Mp3’s can be made stereoscopic even without needing special glasses.

NVIDIA have finally announced that the long awaited release of their ‘3D Stereo’ glasses (Nvidia’s 3D vision 3D Glasses for use with 120Hz ‘3D Ready’ displays) will be delayed until some time early next year [hardly surprising given how late in December it is -ed].
The Nvidia 3D vision / stereo 3D glasses are designed to work with new 120Hz ‘3D Ready’ 3D screens that are available from 3D electronics manufacturers (including Samsung and Mitsubishi).
As you may know.. when it comes to 3D vision, a 60Hz (per eye) refresh rate (120Hz combined) is necessary to see in 3D comfortably. An Nvidia insider claims that nvidia believes that the 120Hz 3D Display market is not yet saturated enough to warrant releasing the new 3D glasses. [if this is true, I think it is a bad decision given the fact that any delay gives the competition more time to develop a better product. -Ed]

PRESS RELEASE:
iZ3D has taken a bold move to make 3D mainstream this Christmas
San Diego, Calif. (December 3, 2008) – iZ3D LLC, designer, marketer
and enabler of advanced 3D visualization systems, has been quietly
but actively promoting the adoption of 3D display technology since
2007. Now the company’s breakthrough approach, widely hailed by users
as delivering a premier 3D experience, is being priced to make it
affordable to casual and enthusiast gamers.
Effective December 1st, the manufacturer’s suggested resale price for
the company’s 22-inch widescreen switchable 3D/2D monitor will be
$399.00. The new price has already been reflected at various online e-
tailers with plans for availability at in-store retailers to be
disclosed in the coming weeks.

Andrew Oliver from UK company Blitz Games spoke at the 3D Entertainment Summit in Los Angeles about a new 3D technology offered by Blitz Games Studio, which allows the PlayStation 3 to display high definition stereoscopic 3D on a normal TV.
“This is an incredibly exciting and huge step forward for videogames. Our BlitzTech technology will prove beyond all doubt that we are already doing what some industry experts have said is impossible on today’s game consoles. Our highly tuned engine is capable of producing real-time interactive graphics that are close to offline rendered CG movie quality” said Oliver. “Many TV manufacturers are already selling sets capable of displaying 3D imagery” Oliver continued. “Our technology allows for our games to run in both 2D and 3D in one version – by simply flicking a ’switch’ between them. It really has to be seen to be believed”.
Bring it on, we say! First comes games then comes a blu-ray 3D standard for 3D movies.
My PS3 might finally get some use! (-Editor)
The “Stereoscopic 3D Gaming Authority” known as MTBS3D has released some early results from their U-decide 3D Gaming Survey. Nothing very exciting to find, but if you wish..

FIRST LOOK: Nvidia’s GeForce Stereoscopic 3D, three-dimensional display technology (for use with 120Hz 3D ready displays).
The Nvidia 3D Vision 3-D glasses feature a built-in rechargeable lithium battery, charged via a mini-USB charging terminal. Oddly (in this day and age) they sync via infrared.
The glasses feature a knob adjustment on the back to make changes in accordance with player preferences in terms of the depth of field.
