What is the ‘3D Revolution’?

This is the phrase that Giz 3D coined, used to describe the current push by major electronics companies to switch from tradition 2D displays to new (revolutionary) 3D Displays. That means 3D TV, Films, Phones, Computers, etc.

3D isn’t exactly ‘new’ though is it?

Classic anaglyph 3D, the one that involves wearing goofy red and blue glasses is not new. But the new technlogies that are being developed do not require the use of 3D glasses.

How does it work?

Well there are several different technologies. All involve creating a left eye / right eye perspective through various means but in normal full color (not red and blue) and without glasses (unlike IMAX 3D). Read through the pages of giz3d.com for further specifics on each technology.

So when will my TV/iPhone/Computer be 3D then?

Well the displays have existed for a few years and are already on the market. Expect 5 – 10 years before they become the standard on all devices though. Also expect ludicrous prices! Remember when Plasma and LCD flat screens first came on to the market and the enormous prices? Well this is going to be far worse! Just like when colour television was first introduced, only the rich will be amongst the first to experience 3D appliances.

What happened to the XXXX page or the information on XXXX?

We like to keep the Giz 3D servers clean and functioning optimally. As such we remove archived info after a month or two.  Too bad, so sad

Do you review 3D gagdets?

Umm.. Yeah thats what we do. Manufacturers often send us latest product releases for review.
