FOX Sports plans to broadcast the BCS college football championship game from Miami (Florida) on January 8 to 3D movie theaters across America. FOX will also beam the 3D footage to 3D projection screens setup at the Consumer Electronics Shows (CES) held in Las Vegas. 3ality (Americas leading 3D camera technology company) will be providing the 3D camera technology for the event (3ality were behind the recent 3D NFL broadcast).
The cost (per game) is estimated to be in the US$200,000 range for on-site 3D equipment alone. Fox Sports Chairman, David Hill has suggested that the 3D electronics manufacturers that are pushing 3D-capable HDTV sets, would need to subsidize 3D HD productions for them to be economically viable.
..I say “keep dreaming FOX”. Does FOX ask 2D television manufacturers to cover the cost of producing FOX’s 2D TV broadcasts? ..the fools -Ed
